Who we are

CSMI Core Values

Overview

The Crusade for Safe Motherhood Initiative (CSMI) is a non-profit organization committed to addressing the high rates of maternal mortality in Nigeria, particularly in rural and underserved areas where access to healthcare is limited. We aim to empower pregnant women with life-saving resources, including access to trained healthcare providers, essential medical equipment, and education on safe pregnancy and childbirth practices. By collaborating with local communities, healthcare professionals, and government bodies, SMI seeks to create lasting solutions to prevent maternal deaths, improve health infrastructure, and advocate for better maternal care policies.

Our Values

1. Compassion CSMI is committed to providing care with empathy, understanding the challenges mothers face in underserved areas, and ensuring that every woman is treated with dignity and respect during pregnancy and childbirth
2. Equity CSMI believes that every woman, regardless of her location, background, or socio-economic status, deserves access to quality maternal healthcare. The initiative prioritizes reaching vulnerable and underserved populations to ensure equal healthcare opportunities.
3. Integrity Transparency, accountability, and ethical practices guide all of CSMI's operations. The organization is dedicated to maintaining high standards in its programs, ensuring that resources are used responsibly to achieve its mission.
4. Collaboration CSMI values partnerships and teamwork, working closely with local communities, healthcare professionals, government bodies, and international organizations to achieve its goals and create sustainable change.

7. Empowerment SMI is dedicated to empowering women and communities by providing them with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to make informed decisions about maternal health. By empowering mothers and families, SMI fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility for their health and well-being.
8. Sustainability SMI values the long-term impact of its programs and strives to create sustainable healthcare solutions for maternal and newborn health. This includes building lasting healthcare infrastructure, training local healthcare workers, and promoting practices that will benefit future generations of mothers and children.

Our Goal

1. Reduce Maternal Mortality CSMI aims to significantly reduce the number of maternal deaths in underserved and rural areas by improving access to quality maternal healthcare, ensuring safe delivery, and addressing complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.
2. Improve Access to Skilled Healthcare One of CSMI’s primary goals is to ensure that pregnant women in remote and underserved areas have access to skilled healthcare professionals, including doctors, midwives, and nurses, for safe and healthy childbirth.
3. Promote Safe Delivery Practices CSMI strives to promote safe delivery by providing well-equipped healthcare facilities and trained personnel to assist during childbirth, reducing the risks associated with home births and poorly equipped clinics.
4. Enhance Maternal Health Awareness Through educational programs, CSMI aims to raise awareness about the importance of prenatal and postnatal care, nutrition, family planning, and early detection of complications, empowering women to make informed decisions about their health.
5. Strengthen Healthcare Infrastructure CSMI is committed to building and improving healthcare facilities, particularly maternal wards in rural areas, to ensure that women have access to the necessary infrastructure for safe pregnancies and deliveries.
6. Support Newborn Health and Survival In addition to caring for mothers, SMI focuses on improving newborn care, reducing infant mortality rates, and ensuring that newborns receive essential postnatal care and immunization.
7. Build Partnerships and Collaborations CSMI seeks to foster partnerships with governments, NGOs, healthcare organizations, and communities to create a collaborative effort in addressing maternal health challenges and achieving long-term sustainability.
8. Advocate for Policy Changes SMI aims to influence public health policies and advocate for improvements in maternal and child healthcare, particularly in underserved regions, ensuring that maternal health becomes a priority at local, state, and national levels.
